Highlights from FLC (Fellowship of the Least Coin)

Submitted by Awit Marcelino, WICC Board member and ICFLC Outgoing Chair

From October 9th-19th, 2020, the International Committee for the Fellowship of the Least Coin (ICFLC) met for its first online annual meeting with representatives from 12 ecumenical organizations from around the world. Rev. Lynn Mitchell and Awit Marcelino participated in these meetings as representatives of WICC. It was Awit Marcelino’s last meeting as WICC’s FLC Liaison and as the ICFLC Chair.

Throughout the ten days, task groups met to discuss the Conflict of Interest Policy, Environmental Justice, and the acceptance of legacies, bequests, and other non-“least coin” donations. Also, sub-committees met to review applications for Project Grants, Scholarship Awards for Young Women, and Bursaries for Older Women. As a whole committee, the ICFLC approved 22 projects, 1 scholarship award for a young woman, and 1 bursary for an older woman.

The ICFLC discussed the challenges and risks of gathering in large groups during the pandemic so, ICFLC staff will communicate with coordinators of approved projects regarding following safety measures in their region. As well, the ICFLC approved the budget for this fiscal year, the Executive Secretary’s performance review, and elected new officers: Rev. Yamina Apolinaris (Representative of Latin American Council of Churches (CLAI) Women’s Ministries and Gender Justice Desk) as Chair, Mira J. Washington (National President, Church Women United (CWU) USA) as Vice-Chair & Secretary, and Mary Martin (Presbyterian Women USA) as Treasurer.

As the Fellowship of the Least Coin is a prayer movement for peace, justice, and reconciliation, the annual meeting included opening prayers, prayers in between discussions, and it ended in a sharing circle of prayer concerns and joys so that women could pray with and for each other even after the meeting ended.
