World Week of Peace in Palestine and Israel

World Week of Peace in Palestine and Israel is September 16 – 23, 2023.

(Note: the World Day of Prayer in March 2024 was written by women in Palestine.)

The International Day of Prayer for Peace is September 21, 2023.  Church organizations, congregations, and people of faith are encouraged to bear a common witness by particpating in worship services, educational events, and acts of support in favour of peace and justice for Palestinians and Israelis during the week of September 16-23.

Using Matthew 8:20 – Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head – the preparatory committee for this year’s materials invite individuals and congregants to commemorate 75 years of Nakba (castastrophe) of the Palestinian people since 1948.  From this verse comes the theme of the 2023 World Week of Peace in Palestine and Israel – “No place to lay my head” – reflecting the challenge for families forced from their homes. Materials are available at Materials for World Week for Peace in Palestine and Israel – 16-23 September 2023 | World Council of Churches (oikoumene.org).
