Here are some of the questions we receive most often. If yours isn’t answered below, please feel free to contact us.

Many of these relate to World Day of Prayer (WDP), as this is our largest program. These responses are generally adapted from the international WDP website.

  • Will I receive a tax receipt for my offering? If so, when?

Yes, all offerings of $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt. There are several ways to give, including World Day of Prayer offering envelopes and the “Donate” button on our website. Please include your contact information so we can mail you a tax receipt. It will arrive by February of the following year. Thank you for your support!

  • I don't remember giving to "Women's Inter-Church Council of Canada"; why did I get a tax receipt from you?

WICC is the organizing umbrella for all World Day of Prayer (WDP) services in Canada. It is likely that you donated through your local WDP offering – thank you! We offer tax receipts for all donations of $20 or more.

  • Where should I send my Fellowship of the Least Coin offering? (Either personally or from our Ingathering Service)

Personal or group donations can be sent through WICC’s usual donation methods, including online or sending cheques to the WICC office by mail. Make sure to indicate that the donation is for the Fellowship of the Least Coin.

All personal (not group) offerings of $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt. If you are donating by mail, please include your name, address, and contact information.

  • I heard that WICC gives out grants. How can I apply for one?

For more information about our grant programs, eligibility and how to apply, please see the “Grant Programs” section of the website.

  • Who determines which projects receive grants? Why was my project rejected for funding?

The World Day of Prayer Grant Selection Committee includes several WICC Council members. These women meet to sort through the applications that made it through pre-screening. Their multi-day meetings involve thorough scoring rubrics and efforts to include regional and thematic diversity in the year’s funding. The projects must also align with the teaching of all partner denominations.

We review all applications as part of our grant process. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to fund each project because we receive a high volume of applications.

To maximize your chance of success, please read the How to Apply checklist carefully and make sure to submit a project that meets the criteria before the deadline. We regret that we are unable to provide detailed feedback on proposals.

  • How long will it take to process my WDP materials order form?

To ensure your materials arrive when you need them, please allow four to six weeks for delivery.

  • Does our WDP service have to be on the first Friday of March?

No! Although most people celebrate World Day of Prayer at this time, some groups organize another date, such as Saturday, so that working people and students can attend. Some groups celebrate in the spring or fall. You’re welcome to set a time for your local WDP service that works for your community.

Don’t forget to plan an alternate or rain date to account for unpredictable Canadian weather!

  • My group's World Day of Prayer coordinator has changed this year. What should we do?

Please contact the WICC office with the new coordinator’s contact information. When you are completing your World Day of Prayer evaluation form, please make sure the coordinators for the current AND following year are noted. Thank you!

  • I'd like to host a World Day of Prayer service. Why can't I just download and print the materials?

You can download the service as a registered user of our site, but first there are a couple of steps. You need to contact WICC in order to get a coordinator’s kit containing a service tracking number.

Once you’ve registered using this number, you have access to downloadable materials. Your service’s city will also appear on our map so people can find your event.

  • Where should I send photos from World Day of Prayer or other WICC events?

WICC would love it if you shared your event with us! Feel free to send photos or other media to [email protected].

If you enjoy social media, join the conversation at #WorldDayofPrayer, or check out our Facebook page.

  • As a coordinator, why do I need a World Day of Prayer service tracking number? Where is it; is it the same as last year's?

Good question! The World Day of Prayer is a massive event requiring careful logistics on the part of WICC in order to serve organizing committees efficiently. Your World Day of Prayer service tracking number is unique to your organizing committee and changes every year. It is how WICC keeps track of your local event, your order, and the offerings you send in.

Once you’ve registered with us as a World Day of Prayer coordinator, your service tracking number is included in your coordinator’s kit and on your World Day of Prayer Materials Order Form.

  • Why didn't I receive my WDP coordinator's package?

WICC relies on information provided on the evaluation form by the previous year’s coordinator to mail our coordinator’s packages each fall. If they gave a church’s address, the package will go there. If they gave no address, unfortunately we won’t have your contact information.
If you did not get a coordinator’s package, please contact the office by email , phone or fax.

  • Can our committee make changes to the World Day of Prayer service?

Yes! WICC recognizes that each community is unique with unique circumstances. As expressed by the international website, planning committees may adapt the service to fit their needs and interests. For example, you may wish to include meditation time, discussion groups, additional prayer requests, or different music.

  • Where does the money collected at the World Day of Prayer go? Why not just pick our own cause to support?

Your World Day of Prayer offering makes a huge impact. Firstly, it covers the cost of producing and shipping your free materials and empowers us to continue running WDP across Canada. Even more importantly, these offerings support grants for projects empowering vulnerable women and children around the world. Find out more about WICC’s Grant Programs or get inspired by Grant Stories. Finally, WDP offerings also assist the work of the international World Day of Prayer committee.

  • Can we deduct our group's expenses from the WDP offerings?

No. It is the stated purpose that offerings received from the World Day of Prayer go to project grants, to the production and distribution of materials for the World Day of Prayer for the following year and to support the work of the World Day of Prayer International Committee. By using the World Day of Prayer materials produced by the Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada, at no cost to your local committee, you enter a trust relationship with WICC and the World Day of Prayer International Committee that commits you to forward the offerings received at your service to WICC.

  • What is a remittance form?

Remittance forms are included in every World Day of Prayer Coordinator’s package. They are needed for the process of sending in World Day of Prayer donations.

  • Where can I find this year's Fellowship of the Least Coin prayer concerns?

The prayer concerns are now available at this link under Fellowship of the Least Coin -> How to Participate.

  • When does WICC send out the WDP coordinator's package?

WICC starts sending coordinator’s packages in late October. The package includes a welcome letter, World Day of Prayer materials order form, planning sheet and background information about the host country. If you did not get a coordinator’s package, please contact the office by email, phone or fax. We are happy to help you.

  • What does the money collected for the Fellowship of the Least Coin go towards?

Money from FLC donations is sent to the International Committee of the Fellowship of the Least Coin to be prayerfully distributed as grant funding. Thanks for your contribution! For more information, please see Fellowship of the Least Coin -> How to Participate .

Please note that this is separate from WICC’s grant programs .
A portion of the offerings also covers the cost of running FLC in Canada.

  • Who can participate in World Day of Prayer? Is the event only for women or Christians?

While the World Day of Prayer is a Christian event with Christian prayers and references, anyone is welcome to attend, so long as they are comfortable with these elements.

If possible, we strongly encourage services to be in accessible venues (friendly for people with mobility, visual, auditory or other challenges). To encourage family participation, resources for children’s programming are also available to leaders.

The WDP was originally created to give women a leadership role in their communities, so we encourage women to form and/or lead a planning committee, but the service is written by women for all of us.
